Allendale lies 10 miles to the South West of Hexham and 33 miles from Newcastle. It is easily accessed by road, with the trans-Pennine A686 (recently voted one of the world's top-ten drives) just four miles distant. The nearest railway station is at Hexham and there are easy links from here to both the East and West Coast main lines. There are regular bus services from Hexham to Allendale, but services are less frequent to some of the outlying villages.
